Ryoji Ikeda

Ikeda born in Gifu (Japan) in 1966. He has been active in the sound
world since 1990 starting off working with underground club spaces and
moving his way into involvement with producing, TV and video soundtracks
and installations. Since 1995, he has been sound operator for the performance
group Dumb Type and has toured with them extensively through Japan,
New Zealand, Brazil and Europe. In 1996, Ikeda collaborated with Christophe
Charles [Mille Plateaux] for a sound
installation in the Tokyo subway. His work appears of several compilations
from Dorobo and Ash International.
He has additionally compiled ''Silence'' (with Derek
Jarman, John Lilly, Holger Czukay, etc) for Spiral / Wacoal Art
Center, and ''Statics'' (with Jim O'Rourke, Alan Lamb, Christophe Charles,
Paul Schutze, David Toop, etc) for his own
CCI recordings label. Recently he has done remixes of Alan Lamb, RLW,
Dumb Type, and Stilluppsteypa. He worked on a sound piece with Simon
Fisher Turner's voice for the web and the installation of Belgian artist
Stefaan Decostere. In May of 1997, he did his first solo performance
in Cologne, Germany alongside Scanner, David
Toop, David Moss, and Bernd Friedman. He
also worked with the japanese architect Toyo Ito for an installation
at the Lousiana Museum in Copenhagen. In 2001 joined sound designer
Carsten Nicolai in ''Cyclo'' project.
